Biography:
Jefferson Pierce, portrayed by Cress Williams, is the titular character in The CW's Black Lightning. Once a highly respected principal of Garfield High School, he previously operated as the superhero Black Lightning, using his metahuman abilities to control and generate electricity to protect his community from crime.
Years before the series begins, Pierce retired from hero work to raise his daughters, Anissa and Jennifer, and to create a safer environment for them. However, the rising tide of gang violence, particularly from the 100 Gang, forces him to reluctantly return to his Black Lightning persona.
Throughout the series, Jefferson grapples with the challenges of balancing his roles as a father, principal, and superhero. He works to protect his family and the city of Freeland, dealing with systemic corruption, government conspiracies, and other metahuman threats, all while mentoring his daughters as they develop their own superpowers.
