Bane is a major antagonist in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, specifically The Dark Knight Rises. He is portrayed as a highly intelligent and physically imposing mercenary, raised in the brutal Peña Duro prison.
Bane was born in the prison and endured a life of hardship, protecting a child named Talia al Ghul when she was born in the same prison. He eventually escaped, after being tortured and experimented on with a form of pain-numbing venom which required a mask for consistent administering and pain relief.
Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's al Ghul, sought him out and together they dedicated themselves to fulfilling Ra's' plan to destroy Gotham City, labeling Bane as "the League of Shadows' reckoning" . Bane orchestrated a meticulously planned campaign of terror, isolating Gotham, exposing corruption, and ultimately intending to detonate a nuclear device within the city.
Despite his formidable strength and strategic brilliance, Bane is eventually defeated by Batman and killed by Talia al Ghul, thus ending his reign of terror and leaving Gotham to rebuild.
