Bane is a fictional character appearing in DC Comics, primarily known as an adversary of Batman. He was created by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Graham Nolan, first appearing in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 (January 1993).
Born in the Peña Duro prison on the fictional Caribbean island of Santa Prisca, Bane endured a brutal upbringing, serving the life sentence of his father. Subjected to experimental experiments involving the super-steroid Venom, Bane gained immense strength and durability.
Bane is a highly intelligent strategist and tactician. He possesses a genius-level intellect, and is fluent in multiple languages. He studies his opponents thoroughly, identifying their weaknesses before engaging them.
Bane's defining act was breaking Batman's back, crippling him and seizing control of Gotham City. Though eventually defeated, Bane remains a formidable foe, continuously seeking to prove himself Batman's superior.
