Groot, a Marvel Comics character, is a sentient tree-like being, a Flora colossus from Planet X, the capital of the branch worlds. He is most famously associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Originally introduced as a monstrous invader in 1960, Groot's character evolved significantly over time. His defining characteristic is his limited vocabulary, primarily consisting of the phrase "I am Groot." This phrase's meaning can only be discerned through context and inflection by those who know him well, such as Rocket Raccoon.

Despite his imposing size and initially monstrous portrayal, Groot is generally benevolent and fiercely loyal to his friends.
