Toxin is a Marvel Comics character, specifically the third major symbiote in the Venom lineage, following Venom and Carnage.
Unlike his predecessors, Toxin's first host was Patrick Mulligan, a New York City police officer. The Carnage symbiote, weakened after a battle, forcefully spawned Toxin into Mulligan. This unusual birth process granted Toxin unique characteristics, including potential for greater strength and stability than either Venom or Carnage.
Initially, Mulligan struggled with the symbiote's violent urges, battling internally to maintain control. He sought help from Spider-Man and Venom, forming an uneasy alliance to understand and contain Toxin's powers.
Over time, Mulligan learned to harness Toxin, using its abilities to continue his work as a police officer and fight crime. He represented a hero trying to balance his responsibilities with the immense power and inherent darkness of the symbiote he hosted.
Toxin's fate took a tragic turn when he was later separated from Mulligan and bonded to Eddie Brock. This resulted in Brock temporarily becoming Toxin, until Eddie eventually becomes Anti-Venom.
