The Joker (Batman Beyond) is a character appearing in the animated series Batman Beyond. While seemingly a new iteration, his true identity is debated, with strong evidence suggesting he is the original Joker, albeit through a complex and twisted resurrection.
In the episode "The Return of the Joker", this Joker terrorizes Neo-Gotham, displaying the classic maniacal traits of his predecessor. He leads a gang of Jokerz, wreaking havoc and specifically targeting Bruce Wayne.
His origins are eventually revealed: the original Joker, years prior, had been defeated by Batman. However, before his demise, he implanted a microchip in Tim Drake, corrupting him and imprinting his personality. While the microchip was deactivated, the Joker's essence remained dormant.
Years later, with advanced technology, the Joker's persona resurfaces in Tim Drake, albeit mentally torturing him. This restored Joker uses Tim as a puppet to strike at Bruce Wayne, showcasing a continuity of their intense animosity. Though physically different, the Joker's twisted humor, madness, and desire to torment Batman persist, making him a chilling echo of the original.
