Norrin Radd, later known as the Silver Surfer, was originally a young astronomer from the planet Zenn-La, a utopian world dedicated to intellectual pursuits and devoid of conflict. When Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, threatened Zenn-La, Radd made a desperate plea. He offered to become Galactus's herald, seeking out uninhabited planets for Galactus to consume, in exchange for Zenn-La's safety.

Galactus accepted Radd's offer, transforming him into the Silver Surfer. He was imbued with the Power Cosmic, granting him immense power and a silvery appearance. He also received a cosmic surfboard that allowed him to travel through space at incredible speeds. Initially, the Surfer diligently served Galactus, suppressing his own emotions to perform his duty.

Eventually, the Silver Surfer arrived on Earth and encountered the Fantastic Four. Their humanity and compassion stirred within him, leading him to rebel against Galactus. He defended Earth, ultimately becoming trapped on the planet by Galactus as punishment. The Surfer has since become a protector of the innocent and a force for good throughout the cosmos, often grappling with the burden of his past and the immense power he wields.
