Deadpool, whose real name is Wade Wilson, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a highly skilled mercenary and assassin known for his motormouth, dark humor, and tendency to break the fourth wall.
Wilson was diagnosed with terminal cancer and, seeking a cure, volunteered for the Weapon X program, which aimed to give him superhuman abilities. He was granted an accelerated healing factor derived from Wolverine's genetic makeup, which halted his cancer but left him severely disfigured.
