Wade Wilson, known as Deadpool, is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics' X-Men series and related media. Created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, he first appeared in The New Mutants #98 in 1991.
Wilson is a disfigured mercenary with the superhuman ability of an accelerated healing factor and physical prowess. This healing factor, derived from Wolverine's, allows him to recover from virtually any injury, making him practically immortal. However, it also causes constant regeneration of brain cells, leading to mental instability and a highly unpredictable personality.
Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall, directly addressing the audience and acknowledging his fictional nature. He is often depicted as comedic and irreverent, frequently cracking jokes even in the midst of intense battles.
Originally introduced as a villain, Deadpool's popularity led to his evolution into an anti-hero and, at times, even a heroic figure, especially within the X-Men universe. He has starred in numerous comic book series, animated shows, and live-action films, most notably portrayed by Ryan Reynolds.
