Wade Wilson, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, is the character known as Deadpool. Prior to his transformation, Wilson was a wisecracking mercenary.
He develops terminal cancer and, desperate for a cure, undergoes an experimental procedure at the Workshop run by Ajax (Francis Freeman). This procedure activates latent mutant genes within him, granting him accelerated healing abilities.
However, the process leaves him severely scarred and disfigured. Seeking revenge on Ajax for the disfigurement and to force him to reverse the condition, he adopts the persona of Deadpool.
Deadpool is characterized by his dark humor, constant fourth-wall breaks, and tendency towards extreme violence. He often addresses the audience directly, commenting on the plot, characters, and even the actors portraying them.
Despite his violent methods, Deadpool often displays a strong sense of morality, albeit twisted and unconventional. His primary motivation often involves protecting those he cares about, particularly his girlfriend Vanessa Carlysle.
