Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. He debuted in The New Mutants #98 (February 1991).
Wilson was originally a Canadian mercenary diagnosed with terminal cancer. He underwent the Weapon X program's healing factor experiment, which granted him regenerative abilities derived from Wolverine's. While the experiment saved his life, it also left him severely disfigured.
Deadpool's defining characteristic is his fourth-wall awareness. He frequently breaks the fourth wall, directly addressing the reader and acknowledging his existence as a comic book character.
